Frequently asked questions
Where are my recipes stored? Do I need an account or internet?
No account with us — there is nothing to create and nowhere to log in. Recipes are stored on your phone; with syncing (part of Cuvio Pro) also in the private iCloud database of the Apple Account your phone already uses. The app keeps working without internet; changes sync once you are back online.
How do I import a recipe from the web?
On the Recipes screen tap + → Import from Web (or Settings → Import from Web) and paste a link to a recipe. The app opens that page, reads the name, ingredients and instructions from it, and hands them to the normal recipe form, where you check them and save. The link to the source is stored with the recipe.
Import from the web doesn’t work on one particular page. Why?
The app reads the recipe from the description that sites add to their pages for search engines. Most large recipe sites do this, but not all of them — sometimes that description is missing, and some sites refuse to be read by apps at all. In that case the app offers to open the page in your browser so you can copy the recipe in by hand. On some pages the app reads only part of the recipe and works out the ingredients and instructions from the page’s formatting — it tells you when that happens, and those are worth a look. If you think a particular page should work, send me the link.
An imported recipe has odd amounts or servings. What now?
Sites write ingredients as free text, so now and then an amount gets split differently than you would expect. Everything lands in the normal form and can be fixed before you save. When a page states something like “1 tray” instead of servings, your default number of servings is kept and the original wording is in Notes.
How do I make a backup?
Settings → Export recipes. You get a single .cuvio file containing every recipe
including photos. Save it to Files, iCloud Drive, or mail it to yourself.
How do I restore a backup, or move to a new phone?
Settings → Import recipes, or simply tap a .cuvio file in Files or in a mail
attachment. The app shows you what will happen before importing anything.
Will importing overwrite what I already have?
Nothing is deleted. A recipe that exists both in the app and in the file is replaced by the file's version; everything else stays untouched. Import never removes a recipe that the file does not contain.
How does syncing work, and how safe is my data?
Syncing is part of Cuvio Pro. Recipes then live in the private iCloud database of your Apple Account, so they are on every device signed in with that account. The data travels encrypted and stays encrypted on Apple's servers, and access is guarded by your Apple ID with two-factor authentication. Nobody but you can see into that part of iCloud — not even us as the developer. Recipes count towards your iCloud storage, but photos are shrunk before saving, so it is kilobytes per recipe.
I lost my phone. Can my recipes be recovered?
With syncing, yes: sign in on the new device with the same Apple Account, install the app, and
your recipes come down from iCloud on their own. The iCloud copy survives uninstalling the
app. Without syncing it comes down to the backup you made, so keep a .cuvio
export somewhere off the phone.
What if I don't have syncing, or don't use iCloud?
The app works anyway — recipes stay on the phone and syncing simply never starts. In that case do export to a file now and then: otherwise only one copy of your recipes exists, and it leaves with the phone. Export is always free, Pro or not.
How does serving scaling work?
Change the number of servings in the recipe detail and ingredient amounts are recalculated. The recipe itself is not modified, and amounts without a number ("to taste") stay as they are.
Can I change the categories?
Yes: Settings → Manage Categories. Add, rename, change the emoji, delete. Deleting a category does not delete recipes — they simply end up without a category.
Can I use the app in English?
Settings → Language. The switch is immediate, no restart needed.
Bugs and ideas
Please describe as precisely as you can what you did and what happened — a reproducible bug is usually fixed within days. Feature ideas are welcome: what people find missing decides what gets built first.
For how the app handles your data, see the privacy policy.
